Cooking Recipe - Campers Fresh and Tasty Venison Goulash Recipe

Sometime ago I wanted to take my family on another camping trip which everyone in my family seems to enjoy. I wanted to make this one a little different because I know people get bored with the same limited food choices. So I decided to come up with a more exciting camping recipe than usual.

If you feel like trying something different when camping and you have a camp fire going here is a great dish for you. This Venison Goulash recipe will get your taste buds going.

The day is drawing to a close and you have lit a camp fire. You are going to prepare a dish in a Dutch Oven or an earthenware pot and place onto the embers of your camp fire. This dish is highly nutritious, full of vitamins, iron and minerals. It is also very rich and tasty.

The meat ingredient for this dish is Venison. Venison has a strong meaty flavor which other meats you buy in the shops do not have. It is so much higher in vitamins, protein and iron, much more so than other meats. Another excellent benefit is there is no fat or very little of it.

INGREDIENTS - serves 4

11/2 lb (700 grams) of venison cut into cubes
2 tablespoons of olive oil
3 medium onions thinly sliced
2 tablespoons of paprika
salt and pepper
1 large red pepper thinly sliced with pith and seeds removed
2 cloves of garlic finely chopped
1/2 a bottle of red wine
4 large carrots chopped
1 pint of water

METHOD

Put the olive oil in a large pan and warm it up. Add the rich textured venison and sprinkle on the salt and pepper for seasoning. Also add the paprika for that little extra taste.

Brown the meat to seal in the goodness and taste. Add the onions and garlic. Saute until the onions are soft. Add the red wine and simmer for 10 minutes. This will give the meat extra richness and flavor.

Transfer all the contents into a Dutch Oven or an earthenware pot. Add the carrots and a pint of water. Put the oven or pot onto the embers of your camp fire and surround the pot with the embers.

Do not cover the pot so you can examine the contents from time to time. Cook for approximately 1.5 hours until the venison is tender. Use a fork to test the meat.

This dish is traditionally served with wide noodles but you may prefer mash potatoes or rice. I hope this recipe has wetted your appetite. It really is a delicious, good, wholesome meal full of vitamins, iron and minerals.

Cooking Recipe - Hey Campers, Why Not Barbeque Your Fresh Trout With This Quick Cooking Recipe?

Have you ever caught a trout yourself? If you haven't I must tell you it is quite an experience. It really does go beyond a fishing rod and a fish. And of course it is a very healthy outdoor activity too.

If you have caught the trout yourself, I congratulate you and well done! Another part of the great fishing experience is the cooking of the fish. I'm now going to show you a great cooking recipe. Trout are an excellent fish to catch. This is because when caught on a rod and line they give you that extra adrenalin rush and excitement. Trout are after all, a great fighting fish, especially for their size.

I love fishing for trout and I know you'll enjoy it too. Just find an opportunity and see for yourself.

If you have bought your trout from a shop, it will probably be a farmed trout. It still has the same high content of vitamins, minerals and omega 3 fatty acids as with wild trout. I find farmed trout doesn't quite have as much flavor as the wild variety but still extremely tasty and much healthier for you than fast foods. The same applies to all domestic and wild foods. They tend to taste slightly different but hey they still have the same goodness in them.

Below is an excellent cooking recipe that is simple and quick. It'll get maximum flavor and health benefits from the fish by using a barbeque, whether you have farmed or wild trout.

Ingredients:

Serves 2

4 trout approximately 8-10 inches long
1 fresh lemon
2 knobs of butter
Salt and pepper
4 pieces of tin foil (approximately 12 inches long by 8 inches wide)

Method:

Take the trout and gut them, leaving the heads on if you prefer. Once you have gutted them wash them thoroughly. Cut the fish with a sharp knife starting at the underbelly back to the tail, only going as deep as the backbone. Once that is done, open up the fish flat. Sprinkle on the salt and pepper for seasoning and then add a knob of butter. Place two thin slices of lemon on top of each fish. Close up the fish so the lemon slices and the seasoning end up inside the fish. Now place the fish onto the tin foil.

Gently wrap each fish individually in the foil into a parcel and seal all around by folding in the sides. This keeps in the moisture and prevents the fish from quickly going dry. Sealing in the moisture preserves more of the vitamins, minerals and omega 3 fatty acids and of course keeps the fish succulent. Barbeque for approximately 10 minutes each side. Once done take off the barbeque and open up the tin foil. Before eating, take a moment and savor that wonderful aroma of the freshly cooked trout. Fantastic!

Serve with a selection of lightly boiled vegetables which adds more vitamins and minerals to provide a satisfying and wholesome meal. Enjoy your meal and enjoy your camping.

Cooking Recipe - Camper's Succulent Barbecued Lamb Recipe With Pita Bread and Fresh Mint Salad

You are on your camping holiday. You're cooking over a barbeque. Let's say, you're putting on the burgers. Now, do you ever think to yourself, what are the ingredients that make up these burgers?

We have all seen on the packets of burgers the list of E numbers and preservatives. Also do you ever wonder how old and how good is the quality of the meat?

What better way of knowing the quality of the meat than to make the burgers fresh yourself. That way you know they are made from the freshest meat. Of course there will be no artificial colors or preservatives. They'll be packed with all the proteins and vitamins that fresh meat provides.

Here is a quick and simple recipe for lamb patties (small burgers) using fresh lean minced lamb. This is accompanied with a fresh and tasty mint salad inside a wonderful wholemeal Pita pocket.

Ingredients: Serves 4

1Kg fresh lean minced lamb
60g finely chopped fresh parsley
1 medium onion finely chopped
25g finely chopped fresh mint
1 clove of garlic, crushed
1 egg
Salt and pepper

Mint Salad

4 small ripe tomatoes
20g whole fresh mint leaves
1 small red onion finely sliced
1 tablespoon of olive oil
2 tablespoons of lemon juice

Method

Place the lamb, parsley, mint, onion, garlic and egg into a large bowl. Knead all the ingredients together while adding salt and pepper for seasoning. The use of the egg is to bind the ingredients together while adding extra protein and vitamins to the meal.

Shape the mixture into eight small patties and leave until you have made the mint salad. To make the Mint Salad first slice the tomatoes into thin rings. Place them in a bowl along with the sliced red onion, whole mint leaves, olive oil and lemon juice. Using a spatula or large spoon gently turn over the salad. Add salt and pepper for seasoning at the same time. Stop when the salad is evenly coated with the olive oil and lemon juice.

Once the salad is prepared brush on the patties a little olive oil both sides to stop them sticking to the hot barbeque grill. Place the patties on the barbeque and cook on each side for approximately 3-4 minutes. Make sure there is a nice brown crust on the bottom before you turn. Otherwise it may fall apart.

Put the wholemeal Pita breads on the barbeque only for a few seconds to brown both sides. Using wholemeal Pitas gives the meal an extra higher fibre content than using ordinary white pitas. Once browned take off the pitas and cut in half. Open them up and place inside them a little salad. Add a lamb pattie and then a little more salad.

If you like natural yogurt, it is a great compliment as a dressing. It is also good for your digestive system because natural yogurt has good bacterial properties. This cooking recipe is rich in nutrients. It has protein, vitamins, iron, minerals and good bacteria for the digestive system. A truly wholesome meal for the whole family. Enjoy.
